ICT in Years 10 & 11

This is a GCSE qualification following the Edexcel ICT syllabus.  The course content breaks down into four main areas:

  • Use of IT to gather, store, process and present information.
  • Function, purpose and organisation of hardware and software.
  • Use of IT to solve problems.
  • Social, legal, moral and ethical issues.

There are four pieces of coursework.  Each project involving the design, creation, testing and documentation of an information system for others to use.

Assessment is by Coursework (60%) and Terminal exam mark (40%).

Applied ICT at GCSE Level

A GCSE in Applied ICT is a nationally recognised work-related qualification designed to provide with you a choice of routes into further education or employment.  It is made up of three units.

 

Unit 1     -             ICT Tools and Applications

Unit 2     -             ICT Systems and Organisations

Unit 3     -             ICT and Society

The course will appeal to you if you:

 

  • Have a keen interest in Information and Communication Technology
  • Enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to your own life and experience
  • Want to find out more about how ICT tools, applications and systems are used by organisations
  • Are interested in developing an understanding of how ICT affects individuals, groups, families, organisations and wider society.

Assessent:

During your course you will build up a folder (portfolio) containing your work for Units 2 and 3 (66%) and will take a computer based exam which will allow you to show they skills you have learnt in Unit 1 (33%).
