PE in Year's 10 & 11 - Core

Physical Education is an important part of the KS4 curriculum and is compulsory for pupils in Year 10 and 11.  Pupils will have the opportunity to extend their physical skills and gain a greater understanding of activities covered in KS3.  All pupils will be expected to fully participate and develop their social skills whilst engaging in physical activity.

The year pupils will have the opportunity to take the JSLA (Junior Sports Leader Award, which is a recognised examination course).  In Year 10 and 11 pupils are given the opportunity to use GL1 Horizons Gym.

In Year 10 students take the AQA Unit Awards Scheme which is a competency certificate in each of the activities covered.

See Mr Sprosen for more details.

PE at GCSE Level

The GCSE (OCR Syllabus) is for those pupils who have enjoyed taking part in sport over KS3 and who want to build up their knowledge and expertise in this area. It is essential that students have taken part in PE lessons on a regular basis in KS3 to qualify for this GCSE.

It is an excellent choice for those who are looking for careers in leisure and recreation, PE teaching and physiotherapy. It also provides a strong foundation for the ‘A’ level PE course.

Assessment:

Terminal exam worth 40% of the marks based on:

This is worth 60% of the final mark.

PE at GCSE Level (Short Course)

Students who opt for the Short Course GCSE PE will gain a ½ GCSE qualification, along with certain coaching certificates such as the Junior Footballers Leaders award.

The course is for students who enjoy Physical Education and would like to learn more about how the media can influence sport, issues with gender and participation, training programmes and other contemporary issues.

Students will be assessed in two sports and undertake a video examination.
