The College Prospectus

Admission Criteria

The school’s indicated admission number is 172 and in the event of oversubscription, places will be allocated and priority given according to the following criteria:  

  1. to children in Public Care (Looked After Children)
  2. to children who have authenticated educational, social or medical reason for attending this particular school.  These applications should be accompanied by documentary evidence from appropriate professionals within the Health or Social Care services  

The remaining places will be allocated equally as set out in criteria A and B below.  If there are insufficient preferences to take up the reserved places under criterion A, then places will be offered to further children who meet criterion B, and vice versa.

Criterian A

Firstly:  children whose parents or guardians can demonstrate allegiance to the Church of England through attendance at a C of E church, if necessary with preference given to children who have siblings attending the school when the younger child is admitted.  Siblings are defined as children who share a parent and are living in the same household.  

Secondly:  children of parents or guardians who can demonstrate allegiance to a church affiliated to Churches Together in England through attendance at a recognized church, if necessary with preference given to children who have siblings attending the school when the younger child is admitted.  Siblings are defined as children who share a parent and are living in the same household.  

Applications under Criterion A should be accompanied by a reference form signed by a minister.

Criterian B

Children of parents or guardians who prefer a secondary school education based on Christian values.  This includes applications from those parents or guardians from faiths other than Christianity, or with no affiliation to any religious belief.  

In the event of oversubscription in any of the above criteria, places will be allocated on the basis of those living closest to the school’s front gate measured in a direct line.  

Parents of a child has not been allocated a place have a formal right of appeal to an independent appeal panel.  Information on appeals is available from the Clerk to the Governors.

Bishops' College seeks to ensure that all its pupils receive a full time education which maximises opportunities for each pupil to realise his/her potential.

The College will ensure effective and efficient systems of communications with pupils, parents and appropriate agencies to provide mutual information advice and support.
