End of term Christmas Assembly, 19 December 2006
We are proud of the Oxstalls tradition of involving students in College decision-making. Students elect a College Parliament, which meets regularly to discuss matters of interest. Our students were consulted at length, for example, over the Bishops’ College uniform. The Chair and Vice Chair then meet with the Principal to report on discussions, and to receive his comments. Our students were involved in the interviews for all the senior management appointments to the College.
The College has already appointed its first Head Girl and Head Boy, and fifteen prefects.
One member of parliament has explained the opening of Bishops’ College like this:
“Oxstalls was a great school but since the change of status it has brought hope, achievement, challenges and the opportunity to use more facilities. We look forward to having a greater variety of qualifications to choose from. The new school does not alone bring a new look, but also new potential in terms of grades. The general environment and atmosphere is of a new standard, and sets new expectations. The school is growing better and better every day, and this gives Bishops’ College the edge. As I think of it, an Oxstalls door has closed, and another one has opened”.
